However, you need someone who knows how
to make sure all the siding is stable and not loose. Remember, you are attaching to an old
surface that will have to be firm, any loose siding could pop out 1/2" or less and
move and crack your stucco at the same time.
Stucco over old siding is done all the time. Just replace any rotted
wood, then you should be good to go. Be sure to get three bids before you start this
project.
One other concern is to make sure all your windows and doors are really
waterproofed. Use Peel and Seal around windows and doors and make sure you hire a well
respected stucco contractor in your area. Lawsuits are all over this country due to poor
installation. Stucco works well if installed right!
Keep in mind stucco also has hairline cracks. I like using the flexible
paints on the market to keep them covered and under control when they appear.
